Four days in the South. Riding some hills on the bike, living of Coke, Powerbar and Wine Gums.

Music from Hans Zimmer for the movie ‘Inception’ called Time. Don’t watch, just listen.

Time

Groningen - Time. Time is precious. Time is limited. And yet time flies. Time flies when you are having fun. Or not. Hours. Minutes. Seconds tick. Fading into memories. Memories of time in the past. And memories fade. As time flies by. And roads pass underneath. Under the tires of my bike. Under the soles of my shoes. Or underneath me in the pool. Endless time spent on training. On time. On time that flies. Time that flies into my memory.

I have had enough. Enough of flying. Enough of racing in my training. Enough memories of minutes that flew by. And there is time. Enough time to take time. Time to grab that moment. Enjoy that moment. Feel that moment. Put time on a hold. Make it a long lasting memory. In stead of a quick one that fades while times flies by. I have time. I want time. I need time to remember my memories.

I have a camera. A camera in my phone. And my phone is almost always with me. It captures time. Minutes. Seconds. Moments. Memories. Lasting memories. Memories of time to remember. Putting time to a halt. Putting myself to a full stop. I have set myself to take time. Take time to remember. Remember those moments.

Moments in time. Flowers at the side of the road. Views over oceans. Sights of cities. Or of horse in the fields. Of places where time stood still. Still to record them in my memory. Record what once flew by. Time is to remember. Time is precious.

Weird refill

Groningen - ‘Bark! Bark! Bark!’ The little dog was not so happy with me. It kept on barking and barking. It was a pretty small dog. One of those that need to bark as loud as possible to show off. Show that he could take me. Bark! Bark! Bark!’ That it was not afraid. Bark! Bark! Bark!’ And I was just waiting for my refill and really happy with the fence being between me and that little barking dog of that middle aged woman working her garden.

Too tired

Groningen - And I am back alive. Kicking to be precise. Still breathing. In the end I slept like a baby, but before that… It was just a plain ride yesterday… Nothing special. Just roughly a hundred kilometers. A little bit of wind (read storm), decent legs (read good) and the best motivation I had in weeks. I really felt like superman and that gave me enough confidence to go ride this ride. But perhaps it was just a bit too much for me to handle…

When the weather is fine and the legs feel good it is time to enjoy the sun with a spin of the legs.

Just now

Groningen - Here I am. Sitting on a table with only one board left. In the middle of the woods. Despite of the dustbins there is junk everywhere. Near the table, under the table. It doesn’t enter my mind. Birds twitter high up in the sky. In the trees. And somewhere on a hidden road traffic flows by with a near silent whooshing noise.

Sitting here. Breathing here. Just relaxing. Enjoying nature. I feel the wind blowing through the hairs on my hands. And with the early year’s sun I feel even more relaxed. Twitter. Twitter. Close by. Faraway. A plane flies somewhere. Twitter. Twitter. The birds respond to other twittering. A soft breeze strokes my face. A troubled looking face. Shoulders tensely high of stress and tension. My head filled.

Filled with plans. Filled with limitations. Filled with worries. Filled with questions. I stare in front of me. It helps to lower my shoulders. The pine trees, the sun on my face, the sands and grass below my feed. The wind flowing through the trees makes everything wave. A yawn. Just sitting here. I close my eyes. I forget about what is in my head. I dream of more of these moments of relaxation. The warmth of my jacket is striking. Nicely warm. With my eyes closed I sense so much more. A noise far away. A gust of wind from my rear left to my front right.

My feet are on the sand below the table. My calves feel different, as if energy is flowing through them. My reasoning is on hold. A fly lands on my left sleeve. And is gone as quick as it came. Here. Today. Today with sun. Today with a little breeze of wind. With a sun ray. Just now. Just now is what makes me smile. Just now is what life is about. Now is listening. Seeing. Tasting. Smelling. And feeling. It is so nice to live this moment. My shoulders relax. And a smile is on my face.

Proud of my 10th Ironman finish.

T-Junction

Groningen - It was a regular Sunday morning, somewhere in March if I remember it correctly. With a small group of friend we planned a ride near Groningen. Easy paddling, fully clothed against the cold, just for 2,5 hours. Nothing wrong with that on a sunny morning early in the year. And so we took off. Heading west to have the wind in the back when coming back…

Shaving

Groningen - I could write why I am writing this, but it is actually all about the story. A long time ago… Perhaps even over 15 years back, someone told me that triathletes shave their legs… The sound of that made all hair on the legs stand up straight in disgust. There was really no way of me shaving my legs… But people change… And so did I.

Batavieren Race 2012

Enschede -  Last weekend the biggest relay running race was held between Nijmegen and Enschede. A race in which I participated a couple of times before. A race with (this year) over 350 teams, made up of 25 runners, both men and women. Starting at 00:00 in Nijmegen finishing in Enschede in the afternoon. Three restarts, different lengths, zig zagging towards Enschede, over roads, through the woods and finally two final runners finishing at the athletic track at Universiteit Twente. And I was one of those two runners.
