I JOINED THE TIMEX MULTISPORT TEAM! I could write a whole blog about all that happened the last few months, but I thought it would be easier to get straight to the point! I must admit that is a bit late to type about this. But as the saying in Dutch goes, better late than never! It has been hectic the two weeks after I got back from the team camp in New York. I have been sick and planning a second and third trip to Lanzarote at the same time. So here is my blog about all what happened two weeks ago… I have been to New York for our team camp at the New York Giants! Within 48 hours after getting back from Lanzarote (of which I posted recently) I caught my flight to New York City. I will need a second chance for sure to see more of the city, because we were fully booked by the TIMEX crew. From 7 in the morning till 9 at night. Meeting new people, or old friend for some, from all over the globe, going to meetings, playing football, running VO2-Max test at a treadmill, eating at Medieval Times, trying to get a nice shot taken at the photo shoot were just some things that kept us busy during those hours! Of course all this was very interesting and a great experience, but there are just some of things that stood out more than others.
Of course there were a lot of new impressions at the camp, with the team and about TIMEX itself. But sometimes things that are not said or mentioned are the things that are the best remembered. Do not ask me why, I just hope you know what I mean…. One of those things is a feeling which has grown in the last few months. Right from the start it just felt right. I have been thinking how to describe what this feeling was, what it felt like, but even in Dutch it would be hard. So in English it is near to impossible, but nonetheless I will give it a try. I might have had a TIMEX watch back in the days and therefore my first renewed contact was in 2009. My phone call to Technolyt for a coffee date turned out completely different from what I expected. After talking about mountain biking in the Alpes , road racing and triathlon I was told that Technolyt had just become the Dutch TIMEX distributor the week before. The short introduction into the TIMEX world, its heritage, authenticity and history made me excited from the start. I really like it when companies are more than just the thing they stand for and TIMEX is one of these companies! TIMEX not only makes watches for everybody, they also try to reach the community! And I was asked to be a part of this! But this was all in August last year and now I have joined the TIMEX Multisport Team, so my phone call was the start of a lot more! Within a week after I had phoned, I was hooked up with the TIMEX Multisport Team and I joined them recently! I think that describing it as joining a family is the best way of putting it. Even before joining I was treated kindly and with great respect. Somehow I did not feel like a stranger to them, it felt as if I had known Tristan (the team manager) longer… We had at least two things in common, triathlon and a love for TIMEX! So during all the email contact my excitement and feelings for TIMEX and the team grew stronger.
At camp in New York this family feeling got confirmed! I was told that I would be great to come, but that is an understatement. I really do not use awesome that often, but I will just use it here! I could spend a whole blog on the camp, so I will leave that for another time. I met most of my teammate and after the four days that I spend with them it felt as leaving behind a family… Besides that this feeling was standing, the life enhancing thought and listening ear impressed me. You might thing that this is nothing special… Well, actually it is special and I will tell you why. During one of the previous camps the athletes were asked what could improve the watch that they were using. All the feedback was used in the new TAPSCREEN watch! A tapscreen watch? This watch can be tapped on the display and this will record a lap. No feeling around, no search or missed lap because of that ultra small button on the front of the watch, just tap the screen and you are done. I tried it and it works great, easy and it even makes recording a lap a fun part of training. So the watch was not only easier to use and therefore enhancing your runs, it was made according to what was said about all the older watches. This made a big impression on me!
Of course we triathletes were not the only people who are benefitting of the way TIMEX listens to the people. As said we stayed at the New York Giants (American football club, I did not know either…), where we used the TIMEX performance center as a base for our camp. Together with the Giants (I can assure you they are real giants) TIMEX tries to get the football players to a higher level in training. Never before did any of these enormous guys pay attention to their heart rate during a training. With the partnership the Giant hope to improve their training and fitness of their football players. So it is not only the triathletes and runners who benefit from TIMEX, there is more to it! Besides the sport range (Ironman) for sports as football, running and cycling in the near future with the new TIMEX Global Trainer GPS watch, there are an outdoor and casual range. I am impressed by the friendly family feeling I got before and at camp, the different kind of watches TIMEX makes and that they really try to make a difference! I am truly honored to be a part of all this and hope to be for a long time! TIMEX really stands out for me and also for you! Perhaps I can introduce you to one of their great watches or history some time soon!
