Groningen - Sometimes there are sets on the plan that just make me scared… Sets like last Friday. Two sets of 120 minutes on race pace, and in between 10 minutes to recover and get a refill. I must admit that 2*120 minutes comes down to 4 hours, which is not even the total of what I would do on race day. Nonetheless, it got me scared on both Wednesday and Thursday. But I made it and here is the story.
The last two years I have had these sets on the plan close to races. And this time too, but the only difference was that these general rehearsals failed in most occasions… So with that stuck in the back of my mind I woke up on Friday morning. Gathering courage from the moment my feet touched the ground next to the bed. The plan was to leave at 11:00AM, but at that time the seat at my laptop was just too comfortable. A view outside only showed clouds and no blue sky. And I had not gathered enough courage to get going…
So after filling up two bottles with some Powerbar, I decide to post something on my Facebook page and ask for a bit of help.
Trying to get ready for my ride… I definitely can use some help… HELP!
Pretty quick I got the first reply and that helped me big time. I got dressed and was almost ready for the battle on the bike. And with the second reply I just found that little amount of extra courage to go for it. Amazing! That just a couple of lines can help you to get going and face your ‘fears’ and just go for it. Half way into the ride the weather had torn me apart, but with the third line I found the strength to keep on going!
And that made me remember the strenght you all have to help me, and all those other athletes, in training and racing! All those cheers motivate, make me smile, give possitive thoughst and help me to keep on going and finish what was started. With that knowlegde, enough courage was found for, not only this training, but also for the next race: Ironman Wales! And for that I am thankfull to have you around!
