Ironman Wales 2011 - It is official

Groningen - I must admit that I am not to great with appointments. And not to great is perhaps an understatement! Perhaps it would be best for me to get a calender to keep my calender’s appointments in… Just to make sure all my appointments are met. Double check! But that might not even be enough… So perhaps a calender, to keeps my calender’s calender’s appoints would be the solution for me. Just triple checking everything. Of course this is not something that came like ‘thunder in a clear blue sky’ as we say in the Netherlands… What happened?

Well… For some reason something went terribly wrong. And before I continue I want to say that I, myself, am the only one to blame. No external factors, nope, just me being absent minded to get things fixed. So what went wrong? Well… And actually I am a bit ashamed to say… My entry for Ironman Wales was messed up… ‘No Jerzy, your entry wasn’t messed up. You messed up.’ Okay, I admit. I messed up.

For some reason I did not enter the race. At the beginning of the season I entered six races. All for the season… All when my shape was good, which wasn’t the case and therefore things changed along the way… Different planning, different race schedule, and no Hawaii this year. But in my mind everything was set for the year… All entries done, fixed and ready to go… Except Ironman Wales…

Withdrawal from Ironman 70.3 UK did not get me of the mailing list. Receiving mails from them, and I am not blaming them in any way, made me think everything was fine for Ironman Wales. Which was not completely the case. Luckily a friend asked me on Twitter where my name was on the PRO start list… And that woke me up big time!

Since his tweet everything got fixed. But not before phoning England like 50 times. Spamming the organizers with emails to get in. And running around on pure adrenaline and stress… All my own fault… But now I can relax. I have three calenders now to keep track of what I need to remember. My Ironman Wales entry is official, thanks to a wonderful organizers. And I learned my lesson. Double check and triple check everything just to make sure everything is set. My stress levels have come down significantly, but still I am a bit tense… But perhaps that is just from the excitement of the race coming up next week…
