Nice video! Watch at about 11:00… Shot with a GoPro camera on a stick!

Groningen - And there we were at the banquet. Stiff, crippled, but filled with joy after finishing Ironman Lanzarote 2011. What more could we wish for? It had been a great day for all of us. Jan (Mijwaart) and Bart (Klein) got their slot for the Ironman World Championships 2011. Cornee (van Loon) got a personal best by almost 45 minutes. And I made it to the finish without getting injured again. Two weeks of training physically and mentally came to an end at the award ceremony. A banquet with food, drinks, some entertainment and great stories to tell and listen too. Except one, well…

Ironman Lanzarote 3.0 - Change

Groningen - Back home… Home after two weeks at the island Lanzarote and finishing the Ironman. Home with the cats and Hilde. It feels great to be back, but at the same time I feel a bit sad because time really flew the last two weeks. Lanzarote is a magical place and really did it’s magic on me.

Before heading to Lanzarote everything was clear in my mind. Two weeks of training to get back on track. And as dessert the Ironman the last Saturday of those two weeks. With the injuries I have had, the race would be no more than another training set and to see where I would be in my process to get ready for the second half of the season. Enjoying the race and experimenting with some things. It all went a bit different….

Ironman Lanzarote 2.0 - Final preparations

Puerto Del Garmen (Lanzarote, Spain) - Things are getting serious now. Well, actually they got serious yesterday afternoon. We went to Club La Santa to pick up our race numbers and all that you need from the organizing committee. It is not my favorite thing to do close before the race, but without them there is no change of getting those 226km done.

People are totally pumped and getting nervous and you can feel the tension rising during the day. But luckily I have my Ipod with me and together with my sunglasses that puts me into my own little world. Blasting music and smiling from ear to ear knowing that it will be one tough cookie on Saturday.

Ironman Lanzarote 1.2 - Following the race

Puerto Del Carmen (Lanzarote) - There are 1,5 days left. 1,5 Days before a storm starts raging on this island. A storm of athletes, a storm of adrenaline, a storm of pure will and power to finish this weekends Ironman. 1,5 Days left and then everything is put together to give it the best shot.

A long road comes to its end. But this end is also a new beginning for the future. After Saturday there will be another day, week, month and year. And another race. But first things first. Race day!

Saturday will be the day that Ironman Lanzarote will take place. The race starts at 7AM local time (which is 8AM central European time (read Amsterdam). Keep an eye out at the following places to track both me and all the others during the race.

The long way before racing an Ironman. Everything comes together in the days before the race.

Found this at the bottom of the ocean in a practice swim. What do you think? Is it any good looking?

Ironman Lanzarote 1.1 - Overheating

Puerto Del Carmen - We made it in one piece as you can see in my first video from Lanzarote. Meanwhile day three is already upon us. Monday was a day with big delays, but after that everything has been excellent. The sun is out, the wind is gentle with us and the company is really great!

Training is good. After getting our bikes ready Tuesday morning, we managed to squeeze in a long ride on the Ironman course. The ride was pretty easy and Monther Nature was gentle with us. Wind conditions were nice to ride most part of the course. Yesterday we put in all the sports. One loop from the swim course, a little bit of biking and pushing it on the run (course).
