Nice video! Watch at about 11:00… Shot with a GoPro camera on a stick!

The final video of Ironman Lanzarote 2011. Been there, done that! Now back to business: Ironman Klagenfurt here I come!

Lotery bike

Groningen - And there we were at the banquet. Stiff, crippled, but filled with joy after finishing Ironman Lanzarote 2011. What more could we wish for? It had been a great day for all of us. Jan (Mijwaart) and Bart (Klein) got their slot for the Ironman World Championships 2011. Cornee (van Loon) got a personal best by almost 45 minutes. And I made it to the finish without getting injured again. Two weeks of training physically and mentally came to an end at the award ceremony. A banquet with food, drinks, some entertainment and great stories to tell and listen too. Except one, well…

Ironman Lanzarote 3.0 - Change

Groningen - Back home… Home after two weeks at the island Lanzarote and finishing the Ironman. Home with the cats and Hilde. It feels great to be back, but at the same time I feel a bit sad because time really flew the last two weeks. Lanzarote is a magical place and really did it’s magic on me.

Before heading to Lanzarote everything was clear in my mind. Two weeks of training to get back on track. And as dessert the Ironman the last Saturday of those two weeks. With the injuries I have had, the race would be no more than another training set and to see where I would be in my process to get ready for the second half of the season. Enjoying the race and experimenting with some things. It all went a bit different….

Redefining bounderies

Tinajo (Lanzarote, Spain) - Lanzarote might be one of the greatest places in the world to train. There is a great 50 meter outdoor pool at Club La Santa, where you can get nice Speedo lines as I did on my unbelievable white butt. You can ride fairly flat, hilly and mountains between one of the 140 volcanoes on the island. And running is perfect on the blue track, on the road or one of the many dirt tracks through the country side. All together enough places and different ways to train and to spend 30 hours of training without noticing it!
Before this trip I camped here at Lanzarote for about a week each time. Every trip was an incredible overload of training, which helped me big time to get where I wanted to be. This fourth time however is just a bit different, not just a week at the island, but two instead. Less hours, less training, less overload, less stress, less people, less more, but still enough was and is done! I got a new change to define my (personal) boundaries. Both mentally and physically I got stretched to and over my boundaries, which made me redefine these boundaries for the future.

A different week at the office

Lanzarote (Spain) - At the moment I am sitting in my comfortable chair flying somewhere above France. Or well, I think it is France, because there are just a couple of lights down and in Belgium there would be a whole lot more of them… So I say bon jour pour vous et bon nuit pour vous! Just kidding, there is just over an hour left of the flight back from Lanzarote  to Amsterdam! Next to me is my Swiss friend Olivier, dreaming about his white Cervélo R3, the 200 km ride we did yesterday, or it also might be his wife…  And since he is sleeping and I was bored I thought about writing something about what we did at the office this week.
