TIP 286: England (& Wales) is stuffed with B&B. Check those out for a race. Still a lot of vancancies close to #IMWales race day.

Ironman Wales 2011 - Swim warm up

Watchfield (United Kingdom) - Stage 2 is done. It was a long day in the car, but at least we got to do some sightseeing along the way. Lots and lots of trucks. The Netherlands, Belgium, France and England. And of course I won’t forget the left hand  driving. All added to the experience we had today… Perhaps not as much as the EuroTunnel/channel swim decision….

New York City Timex team camp 2011!

The moment my little world stood still

Again, I am somewhere high above the Atlantic ocean. Cruising along with almost 800km/h, having travelled almost 1700km. My laptop is plugged in the power below my seat, my phone is charging and so is my Ipod! Comfortably flying to the States! This time however the flight is directly to my final destination: New York City! No more other flight to destinations across the states and New York is getting closer. And at the same time it is  yet so far away…

My traveling started at 7AM instead of 6:30. My phone crashed somewhere at night and that prevented my alarm from waking me. But since this was going to be an exciting day I woke up early enough to get ready to get picked up! So at 7:40AM I was in the car, with all my things, or at least I hope so, and ready to head to Schiphol Airport. Finally the day had come! The day to fly to NYC and meet the team again. It has been too long!

Although it was pretty crowded  on the road things went pretty smooth. Within 2 hours we were getting close to the airport. I had been twittering and using facebook a lot in the car, but did not have any phone calls, till we almost drove into the Schiphol tunnel. I picked up my phone and it was the doctor. My heart just stopped…

Travel to Arizona

Tempe, Arizona (USA) - First of I want to apologize for not writing any sooner. No excuses, just late. Well, I just did to many things that made me happy the last couple of weeks. With that being said I will get back to my flight to Phoenix. Last Saturday I flew to Phoenix (Arizona, USA) to race my last Ironman of 2010. And guess what? It was, again, one big adventure!
Just the trip here was too much fun already! Normally I have no problem with getting up early, well perhaps just for races. But this time I missed two of the three alarms I set, so I was lucky to hear the last one and that left me some time to do some last minute packing. But of course I forgot some things, again, but I have gotten used to that! Everything went smooth till the plane door was closed. A smaller fee for my bike, friendly people at Continental, nice cup of coffee with my dad, great guy at security who knew a lot about triathlon and kind stewardesses, I couldn’t have asked for more…

Being patient

Groningen - It is Tuesday morning and again I am trying to get a hold of KLM. Yesterday I have been phoning for ever to do so, but I did not succeed… I gave it up after three hours on the phone and listening to some song and not getting a hold of anybody. Instead of retrying it this morning I set my alarm at 3AM and gave it a try. After only 40 minutes I got someone on the phone, so patient pays off after all! After just 3 minutes my flight was rebooked to Wednesday and my connection was even better than it would have been this Monday. So no more worries I thought… Well, I still had to phone again to see if it was okay to bring my bike…
